We are fortunate to be able to offer for sale three of Anthony Bukoski’s books of short stories set in Superior. The first, Children of Strangers ($20 - 187 Pgs. Hardcover), introduced us to the world of the East End of the old city, at a time when the people there were often Polish emigrants converting themselves into Americans of the twentieth century. Mr. Bukoski, who was raised in the neighborhood, had become a professor of the Department of Languages and Literature at the University of Wisconsin, Superior. The success of his first book created an audience for a second volume, Polonaise ($20 - 180 Pgs. Hardcover), published in 1999. These far-from-sentimental tales offer still greater insights into "old town" Superior, relentlessly changing. The most recently published collection of stories is Time Between Trains ($22.50 - 188 Pgs. Hardcover). Whether you know East End Superior or not, and it is changing as we speak, the human insights of Bukoski help reveal the America that passes through the decades endlessly. |
