“Great Northern Railway: Ore Docks of Lake Superior Photo Archive” is written by Douglass D. Addison, Sr., a self-proclaimed addict of the Great Northern railway on the Mesabi Iron Range and the four Great Northern ore docks in Allouez. Mr. Addison became interested in the ore docks after he retired as a police officer. Looking for a hobby “instead of hanging around police officers and talking shop about how many tickets we’d given out” he got into railroad model-building. In 1982 he joined the Great Northern Railway Historical Society, which was helpful to him with providing pictures, information and advice. Detailed photos show these docks in operation, and accurate drawings made from the original Great Northern blueprints illustrate how the docks were constructed, which Addison says is “perfect for railroad modelers!” These autographed copies are available now at our office.
