If you have ever wondered what life was like at the Head of the Lakes before I-35 or plane travel, a new book titled “Scott House Souvenirs,” will provide you with a wealth of information about that earlier era.

Scott House is a homestead located three miles south of the city of Carlton on Lac La Belle. It was the site of a stage stop inn on the first road to connect St. Paul with northern Wisconsin and Minnesota during the Military Road era during the 1850s and ’60s. Scott House has a colorful past as an inn, garden market farm, and family residence. It has been renovated and now serves as an events center.

Scott House Souvenirs relates the history of Scott House and the Military Road. Collections of artifacts and furniture from Scott House are showcased in a portfolio of black and white still life photographs.

The book is co-authored by James Sheetz and Marlene Wisuri. Sheetz grew up in Scott House and is the current proprietor of the events center. In the book, he shares his personal memories, photographs, and Scott House recipes.
